Intro to Cmder. As a Windows user, now and then, I have to use the Windows CMD to run some simple command. Compared to its Linux counterpart (bash, for example), the Windows CMD is totally disaster: it does not support smart TAB completion, it does not support pipes and it has a dumb UI. Make cmder run the renamed bash.exe as startup shell then. This also allows you to type bash in windows explorer as path and invoke cmder with the current directory set as well. You may also want to change the target of the 'Bash on Ubuntu on Windows' shortcut to cmder.

A Better Terminal Emulator (Cmder / ConEmu) Running bash inside of a command prompt or powershell window is not very pleasant. After looking around, I settled on using Cmder as my console emulator. It uses ConEmu, but manages to make it look prettier as well as offering additional features. After that, you need to configure a new task in cmder to run Bash on Ubuntu on Windows: Open cmder. On the menu, open Settings option and then select Startup Tasks from the menu tree (or just hit Win + Alt + T) Click the “+” button to add a new task and fill in the fields as follow: Name: zsh.

I'm attempting to use a Bash terminal through a fresh install of Cmder on Windows 10. Whenever I attempt to delete (via backspace) or use the horizontal arrow keys, it does not seem to rerender correctly. I'll show with an example:

This seems to be only a visual issue, as if I were to execute the above example, I would recieve the following result:

'bash: ab: command not found'

I've tried explicitly setting the TERM variable to ansi, xterm and xterm-256color but to no avail.

I am new to bash and commandline, a friend adviced me to use Bash through Cmder so I downloaded it here : http://cmder.net/ (mini)But when I open it it emulates the standard command prompt and not Bash. I can't find where I can configure it.When I say Bash I mean Bash on Ubuntu on Windows 10Thanks

The Windows bash.exe is located in C:WindowsSystem32, all you need to do from cmder shell is to use the full path:

Here's how I did it:

in Settings, Tasks I added a 'bash::ubuntu' task which I launch with :

%windir%system32bash.exe -cur_console:pm:/mnt

(paste it in the big box in the lower right corner)

I even set up its icon with :

-icon '%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocallxssbash.ico'

(paste it in 'Task parameter'.)

And it works like a charm, I even set up a personnalised palette locked to bash::ubuntu (using Ap Distinct) that looks like the purple terminal from ubuntu.

BTW the latest version of ConEmu has already bash.exe setup under Bash::bash.

Support for the new Windows 10 bash shell is a closed issue now.
Setting could be done this way:

You make a new task called Bash::Ubuntu

Task parameters:

/icon '%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocallxssbash.ico'

Commands:

cmd /k '%SYSTEMROOT%System32bash.exe' -new_console:d:%USERPROFILE%

Then you make a new task called Bash::Ubuntu as Admin

Task parameters same as before Commands:

*cmd /k '%SYSTEMROOT%System32bash.exe' -new_console:d:%USERPROFILE%

2018/7/2 no extra setting need with the latest version of Cmder(v1.3.6) and Win10(17134) with WSL(Windows subsystem Linux).

You can type bash in your terminal to switch to the bash mode

exit to exit

same sh for shell
