I've been trying to find a way to do this for a while. I finally did, and it seems not a lot of people know about this method. Basically, you will overwrite the manuf and boot1 with a custom image. It's a bootloader for your TI-Nspire, capable of doing a number of things, such as changing the hardware type (as we will use in this tutorial).

The Computer Algebra System (CAS) will provide you with many helpful functions, such as:

  • Solving for variables

  • Factoring

  • Differentiation

  • Integration

  • And more...

Ti Nspire Os Download

This method of installing CAS:

  • works on ANY CX hardware revision V or less

  • works on the newest OS 4.4

  • will work 100% of the time after initial setup

  • is very simple to update to a newer OS, and will work as long as Ndless can be installed on the target OS

However, it is quite detailed. Just follow along, and you'll be fine. WARNING: ALL data will be lost. Please back it up.

WARNING: Do not use if you have a hardware revision W-Z. This will not work and may brick your calculator. If you would like to know your hardware revision, look on the back of your calculator near the docking port. You'll see 5 digits P-XXXXD. The last letter is the hardware revision. If you have two letters such as AA or AB, that is a later hardware revision than Z. Those models are not compatible as well.

All links (download them all now if you want to, and put them in a folder):
  1. Download the 4.4 non-CAS OS.

  2. Install the OS on your calculator (use Student/Teacher/TiLP, drop OS file on calc).

  3. Boot into the OS, select language, etc.

Step B: Install Ndless
  1. Download Ndless.

  2. Unzip.

  3. Create a new folder on the root level of your calc: ndless.

  4. Drop files in ndless: ndless_resources.tns, ndless_installer_4.4.0.tns.

  1. Download nsPartManagic.

  2. Transfer nsPartManagic to your calc (in any folder).

  3. Install Ndless (open ndless installer file, press [Ctrl]+[W]).

  4. Open nsPartManagic.

  5. Press [3] to select BootData (BootD).

  6. Press [left] to resize BootD until its size matches 0080 pages (the number in parenthesis beside BootD, green).

  7. Press [esc] to return.

  8. Press [6] to select Filesystem (FileS).

  9. Press [left] and [right] to adjust the size of ExtnD (NOT FileS: you are moving the filesystem therefore shrinking/growing ExtnD, not the filesystem itself) to 0480 pages (the number in parenthesis beside FileS, gray).

  10. Press [esc] to return.

  11. Press [esc] to commit. Your calc will warn you that it may cause bricking, etc (which will NOT happen if you followed the instructions). Press [Y] to confirm.

  12. The calculator will reformat the NAND. Once it is done, press [esc] to exit.

  13. Press the reset button. Your calc will reboot, asking for a new OS.

  14. Install OS 4.4, as you downloaded earlier.

  15. Boot into OS and select language, etc.

Step D: Install ControlX
  1. Reinstall Ndless on calculator (follow Step B steps above)

  2. Download these files: nBootnsNandMgr+BtMgboot2 4.0.3ControlX

  3. Unzip all files.

  4. Transfer nBoot/manuf.img.tns to any folder, nsNandMgr/BtMg.tns to /ndless, tinspirecx_boot2_4.0.3.49.img.tns to any folder, controlx.img to any folder.

  5. Open BtMg. When you see the menu, press [esc]. This completes the file association.

  6. Open manuf.img. This will open in BtMg.

  7. Press [4] to select the manuf partition, [2] to flash manuf image.

  8. Press [esc] twice to exit.

  9. Open tinspirecx_boot2.... This will open in BtMg.

  10. Press [6] to select the ExtendeD partition, [2] to flash boot2.

  11. Press [esc] twice to exit.

  12. Open controlx.img. This will open in BtMg.

  13. Press [3] to select the Diags partition, [2] to load ControlX.

  14. Press [enter] to select the first position. ControlX will be flashed.

  15. Press [0] to return to main menu.

  16. Press [5] to select BootD partition.

  17. If you see boot=Boot2 Diags, press [8] to switch it to boot=Diags Boot2, then [0] to exit. Otherwise just press [0] to exit.

  18. Press [0] to exit.

  1. Press the reset button. The next screen should show CtrlX 4.43 TI-NspireCXnum.enUSNapoca64M 4.X.XX+ or something similar. If you see this, ControlX is installed and working.

  2. Reset again. This time, hold [ctrl] while pressing reset.

  3. The ControlX options will appear. Perform the following (you will need to hold down Ctrl while pressing buttons, unlike in the OS, where you can press Ctrl then press the button):

  4. Press [Ctrl+0] to revert to default boot settings

  5. Press [Ctrl+5] to specify min OS 0.0.0

  6. Press [Ctrl+8] to specify CAS

  7. Press [0] to reset the calc

  8. This time do not hold any buttons. You will arrive at the OS not found screen. Make sure your model at the bottom of the screen reads TI-NspireCXCAS.XXXXXXXXXX64M 0.00.0+. (Where X can be anything.)

  9. Download 4.4 CAS OS.

  10. Use the software to transfer to your calculator. It should be detected as a CX CAS and installed as such. If you get an error Wrong handheld type for OS being sent or OS file is invalid or corrupted, reset and hold [ctrl]. Repeat steps 4-7.

  11. After the OS installs and begins to boot, place an object at the reset button. You will need to press it soon.

  12. Once the progress bar disappears and the black and white screen with the clock icon appears, IMMEDIATELY press reset (within 0.75 or so seconds, if possible). Otherwise, the OS will uninstall itself, and you will have to install it again.

  13. Once it reboots again, you should see the language selection as normal. Do not open anything yet.

  14. Download CAS Patcher 4.4 and transfer to /ndless/startup.

  15. Reset the calculator.

  16. When it boots up, open the calculator and perform some CAS calculations, such as solve() or integration. If you get a reboot, the patcher is not installed correctly. Make sure it's in the right folder.

  17. If everything works okay, you're done!

Ti Nspire Cx Cas Os 3.1 Download

Congrats: You now have CAS installed on your Nspire CX!

DISCLAIMER: The word CAS will show on your home screen to indicate you are running a CAS OS. Do not use CAS if it is not allowed where you are using the calculator, such as some exams. If the supervisor sees 'CAS' they may cancel your score or dismiss you from the test. If you need to install a non-CAS OS, perform steps E2-E4, E9 (with non-CAS OS), E10.

Tell me if this works for you guys. I compiled this from very hard to find tutorials, in hopes that it gets more publicity. CAS on the CX is far from dead. It's alive and thriving.
